Each round of Fortress Keepers begins with a setup phase where you place defensive structures along likely enemy paths. Resources are scarce, so deciding which entry points to cover and which to leave lightly guarded is a constant trade-off. The challenge comes from predicting where the next wave will strike and adjusting your layout before the action starts.

Heroes as Tactical Tools

Unlike static towers, hero units level up and gain new abilities. They can be positioned to buff nearby defenses, control areas, or directly engage threats. Developing a hero follows a separate progression track from your base upgrades, so you are always balancing two kinds of investment. Choosing which heroes to raise and where to place them shapes your overall strategy.

Reading Unpredictable Enemies

Enemy groups do not follow a fixed script. Their composition, preferred routes, and special traits shift from round to round. Some may resist certain defense types, while others move quickly or arrive in large numbers. Success depends on observing these patterns and reworking your setup on the fly. The 3D visuals keep unit movement readable, which helps when you need to make quick decisions.

The Resource Squeeze

Every structure, upgrade, and hero ability costs something, and resources are never plentiful. Early rounds force you to spend carefully just to cover all approaches. Later stages demand heavier investment in high-impact upgrades. This tension between immediate survival and long-term growth drives the core loop and keeps each round meaningful.
